Mobile County was originally created by the Mississippi Territory in the year 1812. However, once Mississippi was admitted to the United States, the county became part of the Alabama Territory in 1817. The county had a population of 399,843 as per the 2010 census. With a geographical area of 1,644 Square miles, Mobile County governs several islands such as Dauphin Island, Mon Louis Island and Gaillard Island. As much as 63% of the population in this county is caucasian, followed by 33% by African or Black Americans. There are various counties on either side of Mobile County such as Washington County situated to the north, Jackson County situated to the Southwest, George County, Mississippi situated to the West and Baldwin County situated to the East.
